Editors’ Letter

Hello! Whether you’re joining us for the first time or returning once again, we’re so grateful to have you here. It’s been a while, and oh, how we’ve missed you.

This issue took time. More time than we expected, more time than we hoped—but time, as we’ve been reminded, moves in ways beyond our control and is consistently divine.

Last February, we sat in a dimly lit café with our friends, discussing the shadows of political instability, genocide, and climate disaster—crises that have demanded urgent, active engagement—as well as how this issue of Mister Magazine could meaningfully exist during this time of immense grief.

The past year has held unquantifiable pain, yet through this, we have found ways back to each other. As we approach a new February, we have rediscovered practices, reconnected with traditions, and reaffirmed our commitments: to this work, to our communities, and to ourselves.

It is our deepest desire that this issue serve as an antenna, an object of attunement. The works in this issue will bring you earthside, and its touchstones—cultural ecology, heritage, and art—are not just themes but living, breathing forces, shaping and being shaped by our engagement with them.

To our contributors, team, and broader community: we are so deeply humbled. Your generosity of time, thought, and spirit makes all of this possible. We carry that generosity forward, stepping into what comes next with renewed focus and a deepened sensitivity to the things that matter most.

We’re so glad you’re here.

With love,

Fatima Swaray and Poppy Livingstone
