Ebi Mi: My Family

Izac Olatunji is an English-born Nigerian/American photographer in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) area. Olatunji works as a fine artist, ethno-documentarian, and botanical educator within the ASD (Autism spectrum disorder) community.
Olatunji explores a black surrealist by experimenting with and manipulating physical and traditional darkroom techniques paired with contemporary digital processing centered around black and minority subjects.
Olatunji often combines physical manipulation and printmaking with his Yoruba ethnic background. His recent work has expressed itself in prints depicting family members in traditional Yoruba attire. Stylistically, these photographic ink blots resemble Rorschach Tests. The Rorschach test is a psychological test that records the subjects' perceptions of what they see within the inkblot. It speaks to their emotional functioning and psychological health—ideas that are often taboo within the African community.
